Essays in Honour of Professor Aniela Korzeniowska

Edited by Izabela Szymańska and Agnieszka Piskorska

Scholar, author and translator, Professor Aniela Korzeniowska has carried out her professional activities and lived a celebrated life between cultures and languages in the literal and symbolic sense. As a mark of our deep appreciation of her achievements and contributions, not to men on the warmth of her persona and the friendship which she has bestowed upon so many, we are honoured to contribute our works to this volume, published on the occasion of her jubilee.

Born in Britain to a Scottish mother and a Polish father, Aniela Korzeniowska spent her early life in Scotland, moving to Poland with her parents in the 1970s. She studied at the University of Warsaw, in the Institute of English Studies, and other graduating she became a lecturer there, teaching English for Academic Purposes and translation. Then, with the evolution of curricula, she gradually extended the scope of her courses, to include the topics of translation theory, translation ethics, language variation in translation, and very importantly, Scottish literature and culture.

This volume combines thematically and methodologically diverse papers from the fields of translation studies, literary studies, cultural studies and applied linguistics, which are linked by the fact that they explore, in one way or another, multicultural and multilingual situations and contexts; highlighting overlaps, interfaces, exchanges and meetings that bridge the linguistic and cultural divides.
